3+1 ways to deal with biotic and abiotic stress in the vineyard
By Nikos Kypriotakis, Agronomist Agricultural University of Athens, Food Science and Technology Dept.- AgriSC partner
The new era in EU crops dictates the use of fewer and fewer drugs. Since this trend is prevailing, the following question arises. How should the problems arising in the vineyard from biotic stress, such as insects and fungi, and abiotic stress, such as heat, frost, and salinity, be dealt with?
What actions should we take to shield our vineyard from biotic and abiotic stress?
The primary and essential issue is the existence of a healthy root system to handle biotic and abiotic stress. We can achieve a healthy root system in several ways, such as:
rooting agents,
mycorrhizal inoculation,
root bacteria,
Trichoderma,
enrichment with organic matter,
leonardite,
algae.
The following important issue is reinforcement with biostimulants. They strengthen the internal and external defense of the plant and, thus, the armoring of its growth system.
The use of high-quality mineral fertilizers, i.e., high-purity fertilizers, without
heavy metals
pure Chlorine
low sodium
completes the required actions in terms of strengthening the plant’s growth system.
Finally, early prevention is vital since it can prevent and deal with any problem.
Did you know that?
A robust, healthy grape requires proper root nutrition, well-known medicines, and biostimulants to produce a tasty and aromatic grape.
